While
extending
the
search
to
those
surnames,
whose
spelling
significantly
differs
from
the
family
name
ZWIR
T
Z,
but
which
do sound phonetically almost the same or at least very similar, the following family names catch the researchers‘ attention:
CWIRTZ ZWIRTS SCHWIRTZ SCHWIERTZ SWIERTZ SWIERTS
After
an
analysis
of
entries
in
respective
Parish
records,
it
became
evident
that
bearers
of
the
family
names
CWIRTZ
and
also
ZWIRTS
indeed
were
members
of
the
ZWIRTZ
families
in
focus,
where
their
original
family
name
ZWIRZ
was
documented
with
an
altered
spelling
based
on
the
fact
that
either
officially
the
Polish
language
was
used
or
that
it
was
simply
an
erroneous transcription.
Entries
in
Parish
records
also
provide
evidence
that
members
of
the
family
were
registered
correctly
with
their
family
name
ZWIRTZ
on
the
occasion
of
their
birth/baptism,
but
later
in
the
event
of
their
death
were
erroneous
recorded
with
family
name SCHWIRTZ.
In
Parish
records,
altering
from
the
original
and
correct
spelling,
also
the
surnames
ZWIRZ
and
SCHWIERTZ
were
used
synonymously for one and the same individual.
However, there is currently now indication for a family relationship with bearers of the family names SWIERZ and SWIERS.
