About the Family‘s Origin
While extending the search to those surnames, whose spelling significantly differs from the family name ZWIR T Z, but which do sound phonetically almost the same or at least very similar, the following family names catch the researchers‘ attention: CWIRTZ ZWIRTS SCHWIRTZ SCHWIERTZ SWIERTZ SWIERTS After an analysis of entries in respective Parish records, it became evident that bearers of the family names CWIRTZ and also ZWIRTS indeed were members of the ZWIRTZ families in focus, where their original family name ZWIRZ was documented with an altered spelling based on the fact that either officially the Polish language was used or that it was simply an erroneous transcription. Entries in Parish records also provide evidence that members of the family were registered correctly with their family name ZWIRTZ on the occasion of their birth/baptism, but later in the event of their death were erroneous recorded with family name SCHWIRTZ. In Parish records, altering from the original and correct spelling, also the surnames ZWIRZ and SCHWIERTZ were used synonymously for one and the same individual. However, there is currently now indication for a family relationship with bearers of the family names SWIERZ and SWIERS.
